Cynthia Kirkland may have started out in Virginia, but she followed her dream and now works as a garment cutter and seamstress for Walt Disney World in Orland Florida. This sparked her interest in the transition from costuming to geek fashion, her love of costuming allowing her to “bring treasured characters to life.”
Being accepted into the Her Universe Fashion Show in 2016, gave her the chance to begin the transition into fashion, and geek fashion, with Ashley Eckstien’s mantra:
“Dream it. Do it.”
Resonated with her.
Geek Couture allows in her belief an outlet for girls and women to find their accepting nice in the fashion industry.
Cynthia Kirkland’s entry into this years Her Universe Fashion Show, is based on the “Amphibian Man,” from The Shape of Water by Guillermo del Toro. Her dress is a mermaid gown with fish scale iridescence and fish tail elements in the skirt, hiding her legs making her into a mermaid. The dress is paired with a handbag shaped like a pearl.
