Balenciaga is a luxury brand known for garnering a lot of attention. This time it’s not some extravagant fashion item, even with them having made crocs heels. On Monday, November 14, 2022, They removed their Twitter account. This comes at a turbulent time, following the purchase of Twitter by Elon Musk, raising concerns over the direction the platform will go.
Balenciaga was only one of the recent major brands and users to leave Twitter, as well as the major corporations and advertisers who are pausing their activity and advertising following Musk’s takeover of the company. Some companies have been more vocal in their ceasing advertising on the platform but multiple have been quietly suspending their accounts and advertising, like Balenciaga.
Balenciaga, owned by Kering a multinational conglomerate including other brands such as Gucci, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, and Alexander McQueen, is the first fashion brand of both its size and influence to leave twitter, and may create wonder if other brands will follow.
